Latest Updates from Our Project:

The things I've seen...
about 5 years ago – Fri, Apr 05, 2019 at 12:43:08 PM

This update's pretty boring - I just wanted to share some art/flavor text for the Barber and Undertaker classes.

Shaves, haircuts, amputations and tooth extraction. You know enough to know that to heal, you must hurt. It’s a tough world out there, and the anesthetic has all run out. Bite down, power through, and remember the barber’s code. Don’t. Miss. Twice.

You straddle the divide between the living and dead. If only they knew how you had to break, paralyze, and stitch those lost so that they don’t rise back up and tear it all apart. The dark knowledge you hold, the dark things you’ve done, who will keep you from using them against the living when you are laid in your own black pine box?

The humanity here will crush you.

Imagine that line is bold/italics. It’s flavor text.

It’s been a minute since I’ve been able to post an update - and some of you know why, because instead of reading my words through a screen, you came and heard my voice (well, what’s left of it) at ECCC.

My main gig is comics, so from the spring - fall I travel a LOT for comic conventions. And it meant so much to me to see some of you Casket Land folks in person at ECCC. It’s wonderful to be able to connect online, but getting the opportunity to really be excited about this project together in person was really, REALLY special.

So. If you came by to see me at ECCC this weekend, thank you. You made my con all the more special.

If you missed me at ECCC, no worries. I’m gonna be at C2E2 AA-U6 in Chicago this weekend! If you’re gonna be at the show PLEASE stop by and say hello.

As for now, I’m gonna get on a plane and draw some monsters.

Exceeded Expectations

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Ok. So, granted that preview image isn't super great, or atmospheric, but that video? It'll show you the true weight of the gratitude I have for ALL of you .

I never, EVER would have believed Casket Land could exist on this scale. But you made it happen. And not just the game, EVERY stretch goal brought more terror to the world I built, more atmosphere, more options for survival.

I had hoped to print the book, and watch people play in the dustbox I created. I can't believe I'm gonna see some of you wearing Casket Land patches, talking about the Dust Worms and Salt Piles, discuss wether or not a shovel is a better weapon than a pitchfork, getting into DIY magic with shrink film tokens, laying a cloth map of a land I was able to bring to life on their table.

YOU all gave me this gift. This is all happening because you believed in a desolate dust-scape inhabited by madmen and monsters and thought "hell yeah, I wanna escape to that world with my friends for a little bit."

Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU!

A Way Out

$15K...demolished.

So that means ALL physical reward tiers are gonna get a Casket Land themed DM screen!

What's that mean now? We're three days from the end...but there is so much more I want to make for you.

I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE WAY

I want you to see this place as I see it
I want you to see this place as I see it

I've got one more stretch goal in me, and I know you've got it in you too. If we can push this thing past $20K I'll be able to screen print off an oversized cloth CASKET LAND MAP and include it in ALL physical reward tiers (the map will be included in the PDF as well if we hit $20K).

You don't need it to play the game - but how cool would it be to invite your friends over and set this on the gaming table? With your Casket Land DM screen, some hot coffee, bag of chips off to the side...

Yeah. That sounds fun. That sounds really great. Share it with your friends and let's make this happen!

The Dust Worms rise.

Well.

All the stretch goals are unlocked?!

You broke the 800 backers goal wide open today - which means Casket Land is getting flooded with more monsters and the weapons needed to fight them. I've got some really wild ideas for 'em, and I can't wait for you to crack open your zines and see them.

That also means that $50 tier opens back up! So if you want to grab some original weapon/item art go for it! The monsters will all be added up in the $120 tier, along with all the art for the classes.

What's next?

I've had a lot of folks asking what the next step for stretch goals will be, if there will be an option to add patches to your initial pledge, will there be more original art? And now...I finally have answers!

There is now a new reward tier option to add an embroidered patch to your zine order!

And...since we obliterated those stretch goals I was able to reach out and ask my favorite riso-printing studio, Risolve, if we could get some Casket Land prints on their presses. If you've met me, or bought a print from me before, you've probably heard me rave about riso and risolve, so I am VERY excited to be working with them again on this.

In case some of you are new to riso printing, let me give you a run down. I used to describe it as "cash poor screen printing" - but it's so much more. Each piece of paper is run through this super cool printer, but the registration isn't always 100% accurate - which means each and every print is different. You're essentially getting a one of a kind print that's more affordable than a screen print. I plan on printing in black and risolve's bright red ink. I LOVE risolve, and I've worked with them countless times. If you want more examples of riso printing, you can check out their website! Or swing by ECCC/C2E2 (if you're in seattle and chicago) to check out some of my prints/books that I've done with Risolve.

If you choose to back at the print tier, you'll be receiving a set of 3 2.5x5 prints - one of the Sage Hen, one of the Flock, and one of Loam.

And now for the big reveal.

A new stretch goal. At $15k I'm gonna print a pocket-sized DM screen.

Seriously - I'm STUNNED by the support Casket Land has gotten. We were breaking stretch goals faster than I could come up with new ones. I talked long and hard with a few people about what would be a nice new addition to the stretch goal list, and DM screen kept coming up over and over.

So - I'm doin' it. At $15K I'll draw a 7" x 20", super atmospheric landscape DM screen.

We're only $3K away from that...I think we can make it. I know we can make it.
